Abstract

The primary purpose of this study was the development and validation of a social intelligence scale for the Puerto Rican adult population from the theoretical approach of Stephen J. Sampson and Cindy Elrod (2010). A total of 203 people between the ages of 21 to 65 years participated in this exploratory and correlational research. The sample consisted of 149 participants who indicated that they were female and 54 who identified themselves as male. The principal investigator translated 45 items into the Spanish language to measure social intelligence and explore the meaning of this construct. A total of 9 reagents met the criteria of biserial discrimination (rbis) and appropriate factorial loads according to the analysis of "Principal Axis Factoring" with oblique rotation (Oblimin). The reliability index of the scale was .86. The sociodemographic variable academic preparation has a statistically significant relationship with the social intelligence construct measured by the questionnaire used in this research.
